The Barnabas Foundation is a Christian community-based organization working in Kavundira, a fishing village on the shores of Lake Victoria in Nkumba–Entebbe.
More than a decade ago, Charles and Eva Mugisha, along with their four children, moved to this village seeking peace and a fresh start. But what they found was a community weighed down by hardship: drug abuse, alcoholism, broken families, child neglect, and cycles of poverty that left young people vulnerable to exploitation and hopelessness.
Rather than turn away, the Mugishas chose to respond. In 2022, they welcomed two abandoned children into their care and helped them return to school. From that act of love, The Barnabas Foundation was born.
Now officially registered with the Government of Uganda (2025), The Barnabas Foundation exists to restore dignity, hope, and opportunity in Kavundira. We do this by:
Providing school meals for children whose parents cannot afford them.
Identifying and supporting vulnerable families through practical aid and spiritual encouragement.
Promoting mindset transformation rooted in Christian values — encouraging fathers to lead with love, mothers to build strong households, and youth to embrace education and opportunity.
Developing programs in skills training, agriculture, and small enterprises to create long-term economic change.
We believe transformation begins with the renewing of minds (Romans 12:2). Our goal is to see a thriving community where families are whole, young people are empowered, and harmful cultural practices are replaced with values of hope, faith, and growth.
Kavundira has long been labelled “a rotten place.” We believe it can become a place of restoration — where brokenness is healed, and futures are rebuilt. Every act of kindness, every prayer, and
every gift of support fuels this transformation.
